Named in honour of our Hawke’s Bay pioneer, Tom McDonald, Church Road TOM wines are creations of rare beauty. Produced only in outstanding vintages under the supervision of Chief Winemaker Chris Scott, these wines represent the pinnacle of our devotion to craft and the culmination of wine growing and winemaking expertise amassed over the last century.

68.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot.

A core of dark berry fruit and plum is lifted by top notes of rosewood, cedar and violet with a cooler fragrant hint of cardamom. A savoury dark earthy complexity and a thread of graphite brings a more serious, brooding undertone to the wine.

On the palate the wine is medium/full bodied with gentle mid palate flesh, finishing with a long, fine, supple tannin structure.

This is a dense yet elegant wine with great depth which will reward long term cellaring until 2029 – 2044.

There’s an iron-sand scent with baked earth then wood smoke. Full-bodied with ripe, firm tannins and plenty of acidity, flavors of fresh and baked fruits reflect the bouquet, smoky wood, and chocolate. Lengthy, firm, youthful, still developing with tension and pause, a long finish, a wine to invest in. Best drinking form 2026 through 2040+.”
