A complex and characterful Barossa Shiraz exhibiting modern wine making techniques overlayed on a traditional and subregional core. Sourced from vines ranging from 22 years up to a staggering 95 years old in the Southern Barossa. Careful cellaring will see this wine develop elegantly for up to 20 years.
Bright red berry notes from whole bunch fermentations are bolstered by sub-regional notes of chocolate and spices. Upfront flavours of toasted cedar from premium French oak barrels are integrated with black berry and plum fruit flavours. The regional notes persist on the palate in the form of anise, black pepper, and a touch of iodine. The palate is big and bold reflecting the excellent growing conditions of the 2016 vintage.
Cellar now to 2040
Pairs well with Duck Confit with mash potatoes.

97 Points - Tyson Stelzer - Halliday Wine Companion 2021 "Hand-picked fruit from the southern part of Barossa, planted between 1991–1994. 5 parcels, 3 with partial whole-bunch fermentation; matured 14 months in mix of new and old French and American oak. The fragrant, exotic spice of century-old Barossa vines is something to behold, heightened magnificently by carefully gauged whole-bunch fermentation. Classy, polished dark chocolate oak sits just below the fruit at every moment throughout a finish of incredible persistence and undeviating line. Quite phenomenal."
95 Points - Angus Hughson - The Vintage Journal 2022 "Deep crimson and a mainstream Barossan style thanks to intense blackberry, brambly, slight prune, raisin, mocha aromas with leafy notes. Quite grippy on the palate with blackberry, blackcurrant, graphite flavours well matched with brambly textures and underlying savoury oak with an inky plume at the finish. A sturdy and hearty wine that will improve for a little while yet."
