96 Points – Erin Larkin – Halliday Wine Companion 2022 – “Matured for 18 months in French oak (40% new). This is massive, the oak a central part of the experience right now. However, at the time of tasting, this wine still has a year and a bit to go before release. The time will be crucial for the ample black and red fruit to soak up that oak, step up on its shoulders and ride the chariot with muscle and power. Concentrated and focused; this will be great in time. The release date (Feb '23): well judged.”
96 Points – Vinous.com 2023 – “The punchy, dense style of the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon St Hugo Coonawarra is tightly wound, but its trajectory is clear. Muscular and powerful blackberry, blackcurrant, crushed gravel and dried herb aromas are tightly wrapped in a blanket of well-chosen oak. Mouthfilling flavours follow, with chew tannins and fresh acidity to drive a long, strong finish. Killer length tops off a very serious wine.”
