A fine wine of elegance, fruit flavor and power balanced by firm fine-grained tannins, Jack Mann is the finest Cabernet produced by Houghton. Accordingly, it is named after legendary Houghton winemaker, Jack Mann who presided over the winemaking for 51 consecutive vintages at Houghton. Jack’s unrelenting search for flavor and character and his desire to make wine to exacting standards was legendary within the industry.
The 2021 Jack Mann is a dark purple with a bright scarlet hue. The bouquet is dense with concentrated dark forest fruits, black olives, blackberry and dark chocolate characters with a subtle overlay of dried herbs - bay leaf, tobacco and wild mint. High quality French oak completes the picture.
The palate is full rich, and sumptuously layered wine with intensity, power and presence. The dense, firm, fine grained tannin is beautifully integrated with the fruit and oak providing a seamless palate. A wine of exceptional concentration and length. Outstanding intensity, structure and balance will ensure a long cellaring life. A wonderful, concentrated expression of Cabernet.
Enjoy with a Rare Roast beef or a Venison.
98 GOLD Points- Halliday Wine Companion 2025 - Cabernet sauvignon of the Year. "This is elegance personified. So smooth, so luscious, so rich and yet it finds levity and a sense of drive. Inky cassis, lavender and violet floral lift, fancy feeling mahogany and new leather elements, clove spice, bay leaf and faint sea spray characters in the mix. It feels quite tightly wound despite its velvety suppleness and flow, tannins in a web of fine, graphite-like mineral accents delivering tension and poise. It's a wine that delivers an experience and visceral pleasure. Drink now after a lusty decant, but save some for long cellaring, too." Panel Decision - Published 07 August 2024
96 Points - Andrew Caillard - The Vintage Journal 2023 "Deep crimson. Intense blackcurrant, cedar aromas with mocha notes. Very well-balanced wine with dense blackcurrant pastille, hint elderberry fruits, superb grainy firm and sinuous tannins, lovely mid palate volume and integrated cedar/ mocha complexity. Finishes chocolaty firm with lovely bittersweet notes. Drink 2026 – 2040"
96 Points -Ray Jordan - WA Wine Review 2024 - "One of the most elegant of any Jack Mann release, being a product of this cooler vintage in Frankland River. Comes from the famous Justin vineyard in Frankland. Aromas of blackcurrant and light cedar with other notes of leaf and violet. Lovely medium to full bodied fruit on the palate with fine silky tannins and an ample hit of supporting oak. Structurally firm but with expressive elegance."
96 Points -Huon Hooke - The Real Review 2024 - "Very bright, deep and youthful purple colour; concentrated mulberry/blackcurrant fruit on the nose confirms the variety's identity, while classy oak is definitely there but tucked into the background. This is a very impressive full-bodied cabernet with a bright future. (from the Justin vineyard)"
