This plays to Aristotle’s idiom that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts…..

Take some old vine fragrant and blue fruited grenache, throw in some spice, plum and mulberry driven shiraz and mix in a decent slug of firm and structured Mataro and you get a wine that has aromas of dried herbs, white pepper, bramble and blueberry.

Bright and lively in flavour, with supple, round tannins and with really smart length and presence. A wise man is that Aristotle, and he loved a GSM.

Pairs well with rib eye, charred lamb cutlets or light spiced eggplant stack

95 Points– Tony Love – Wine Pilot 2026 – “The St Hugo range has long been a trusted Barossa portfolio that takes much of the better fruit sources previously available to Orlando and Pernod Ricard, and now that Vinarchy has at its disposal in the region. This is a terrific, modern style, the blend suited to a more medium-bodied expression via its capacity to proportion its varieties to suit. Delightfully fragrant to begin, crushed potpourri petals and raspberry/cherry jubes, then a sophisticated and elegant tone through the palate gathering all those elements into a singular voice, a perfect mix of ripeness and freshness, seamless and spicy and simply a joy to drink.”

93 Points – Ken Gargett – Wine Pilot 2026 “This version of the famous GSM blend is very much Grenache driven, with that variety providing 70% of the mix. Shiraz accounts for 21% with the remaining 9% being Mourvedre. The grapes come from three discrete blocks in the Barossa, which are between 60 and 80 years of age. A deep and dark maroon hue, there is power here. The nose reveals an array of aromas including black cherries, a touch of florals, chocolate, black fruits, bay leaves and orange rind, along with a flick of oak. A sleek and supple texture, there is decent balance and medium length, through to satiny, slightly powdery tannins. A wine for enjoying over the next six to ten years.”
