Eden Valley
Head east from the Barossa Valley and the landscape changes dramatically. Eden Valley lies within the Barossa Range, a high-altitude region of between 400–500 metres compared with the Barossa Valley's elevation of 200–300 metres. That difference in elevation, just a short drive, produces wines with a noticeably different personality. Cooler, more precise and more elegant. A region that rewards people who take the time to explore it.

The Climate and Soils
The higher altitude results in a later ripening pattern, one to two weeks difference compared to the Barossa Valley, producing more distinctive varietal flavour characteristics and higher acidities due to increased continentality. The best vineyard sites sit on moderate slopes well exposed to sunlight, at elevations between 380 and 500 metres. Soils are predominantly weathered rocks and gravels in a clay-based sub-soil, quite different to the rich alluvial soils of the valley floor below. Eden Valley also includes the High Eden sub-region, known for its rockier, more acidic soils and even cooler temperatures.
The Wines
Eden Valley produces two varieties that stand apart from almost anywhere else in Australia. Shiraz wines from Eden Valley exhibit a distinct elegance and refinement, intense black fruit flavours, pepper spice and a vibrant acidity that sets them apart from the richer, fuller styles of the valley floor. The region is also home to the Hill of Grace vineyard with its 140-year-old Shiraz vines, one of Australia's most celebrated and collectable wines. Riesling is equally impressive, Eden Valley competes directly with Clare Valley in producing Australia's finest Riesling, with a citrus precision and mineral backbone that develops beautifully over time.
In our range
The St Hallett Garden of Eden Shiraz and Higher Earth Syrah both showcase what Eden Valley does so well, elegance, spice and fine tannins that linger long after the glass is empty. For whites, the Grant Burge Thorn Riesling and St Hugo Signature Eden Valley Riesling are two of the most consistent expressions of the region's benchmark white variety. The Rolf Binder Eden Valley Riesling rounds out a range that covers the region beautifully across styles and price points.
