The grapes for the Houghton Gladstones Cabernet Sauvignon come predominantly from the Batley vineyard in the Wilyabrup sub region of Margaret River. The low yields and excellent vineyard site provide depth, intensity and classic Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon characters of cassis and bay leaf. The 2019 Houghton Gladstones Cabernet Sauvignon is a muscular wine with ripe, fine tannins that give texture, balance and poise.
The 2019 vintage in Margaret River was characterised by persistent cool and dry conditions leading into a later than average commencement to harvest. The Batley vineyard produced a low yielding crop with intensity of flavour and fine, firm tannins.
Food Matching Suggestions: Enjoy with char grilled steak, rich beef based dishes, or hard cheeses.

95 GOLD POINTS - Halliday Companion 2023""From the Batley Vineyard in the Wilyabrup subregion; hand-picked fruit, open fermented with wild yeast and matured in French barriques. Seemingly picked earlier than most, the colour not deep, a la the Englishman's claret of bygone days. On the plus side, it has excellent balance, no sign of green fruit, and can be enjoyed now as much as in 5 years."" James Halliday August 2022
