Jack Mann the wine is named in honour of the late, great Jack Mann, who was the Houghton Winemaker from 1922 to 1973. Not only did Jack have a huge influence on the development of the Western Australian wine industry but his commitment to quality and integrity still has an influence on winemakers today.

The fruit for this wine was hand harvested and hand sorted before de-stemming into small open top fermenters. The individual
ferments were conducted with indigenous yeast which contributes to the complexity and texture of the wine. Following routine hand plunging, the ferments were pressed off at dryness and transferred to oak for malolactic fermentation. Following maturation in French oak barriques the components were assessed and blended prior to filtration and bottling. The final blend was 92.9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7.1% Malbec.

The 2019 Houghton Jack Mann is a single vineyard wine from the Justin Vineyard in the Frankland River sub-region of the Great
Southern. With careful cellaring this wine will continue to develop in complexity over the next fifteen to twenty years.

The 2019 vintage in Frankland River was characterised by persistent cool and dry conditions leading into a later than average
commencement to harvest. The Justin Vineyard produced a low yielding crop with intensity of flavour and fine, firm tannins.

Food Matching Suggestions - Rare roast beef or Venison.

97 Gold Points - James Halliday "The cabernet shape of the bottle is normal, its weight heavier – appropriate for Jack Mann's belief that no wine was worth its gold unless it could be diluted with 50% water and still enjoyed. This is pure cabernet sauvignon, from a deep well of blackcurrant and black olive fruit, and tannins to make sure the wine outlives you."

93 Points - 2021 Decanter World Wine Awards

94 Points - Andrew Caillard - May 2021 "Well concentrated wine with attractive inky, blackcurrant, red cherry, chinotto flavours, persistent fine graphite/ al dente leafy firm tannins, linear fresh acidity and underlying roasted chestnut vanilla notes. Finishes claret-firm with good length. Well balanced wine with potential to gain more mid-palate volume and complexity with age.  2024-2028+"
